3D Printing Program
September 2018 - ONGOING
The 3D Printing Program (3DPP) focuses on implementing innovative 3D printing technologies in the BC Children’s Hospital that improve the delivery of clinical care.
Our goal is to improve operating room (OR) preparation through complete representation of anatomy and providing a chance to validate patient-specific treatment approaches pre-operatively. We are introducing 3D-printed models as an educational resource for patients and their parents. With a tangible 3D model in the observer’s hands, complex anatomy will be understood more easily and explanation of the intended or previously performed surgical or interventional procedures will require less ambiguous terminology. The program also focuses on integrating these models into the clinical training sessions, whereby clinical trainees will have the opportunity to observe the whole spectrum of different pathologies.
